The Asakusa Samba Festival is a much awaited yearly dance festival in Tokyo. Dancers from Brazil and their counterparts in Japan strut their way along the busy Asakusa area. A lineup of teams parade in their beautiful costumes to vie for the yearly competition which is the main attraction in this festival.
Every year, the traditional district of Tokyo known as Asakusa gets treated to the very untraditional sight of samba girls dancing down the street in front of Senso-ji, one of TokyoÂ’s most dignified Buddhist temples. A kaleidoscopic swirl of color fills the street as musicians, dancers, and floats move to the sound of the samba beat rather than a somber Buddhist dirge. Recently Asakusa held its 27th Samba Carnival.
